The Embedded and Open Systems Group defines and implements advanced architectures for real-time embedded processor, avionics, and command and control systems. Embedded processing efforts use diverse computational elements including ASICs, FPGAs, GPUs, and microprocessors to address challenging sensor signal processing, communications, electronic warfare, and artificial intelligence applications. Hardware, software, and mathematical expertise are blended to optimize solutions that meet stringent performance and environmental requirements. Open architecture efforts enable the flexible composition of sensors, processors, ground stations, and command centers to provide necessary warfighting capabilities in a timely manner. Standards to ensure seamless information transfer between system components and subsystem-level upgradability over time are defined and prototyped using modern software engineering principles before ultimate deployment within fielded systems. To facilitate the accelerated delivery of advanced surveillance capabilities to the warfighter, the Embedded and Open Systems Group is playing a key role in re-architecting Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance systems with an emphasis on sensor processors. The Group seeks a real-time processor architect to drive the next-generation sensor open architectures in support of airborne RF and optical systems. The position will provide opportunities to lead a team to define, implement, and demonstrate modern flexible software architectures that will enable new, rapidly prototyped approaches to sensor control processing, signal processing, and image processing. Significant interaction with Laboratory and DoD leadership is expected as well as collaboration with other government and commercial organizations.The successful candidate must possess demonstrated expertise in the following high-performance sensor processing domains: computer architectures, sensor fabric networks, and object oriented C++ software architectures. Also desirable is experience in RF and optical systems. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this role. Qualifications:PhD in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related fields is required.
