The Director BioPharma Sales is responsible for managing the CRO sales teams (US and Europe) and working closely with senior leaders in bio-pharma companies to drive sales and build partnerships using Sysmex Inostics diagnostic test platforms. In this role, he/she will guide and educate potential partners including biomarker researchers, translational medicine scientists and clinical development teams, from the basics to fully fledged partnerships using Sysmex Inostics technologies for clinical trials and companion diagnostics (CDx) opportunities. This role serves as the first window for cultivating business opportunities for Sysmex-wide life science technologies.

The Director is responsible for delivering on the sales targets set by the organization and proposes and implements new strategies to expand biopharmaceutical business in both the US and Europe. This role requires a deep understanding of oncology diagnostics, biopharma, genomics, and clinical trials. He/she is the go-to person for insights into the science, medicine and competitive landscape identifying customer needs and will bring those insights to overall management of the company. This role is cross-functional and interacts with Product Development, Clinical and Research Operations, Bioinformatics, Marketing, Medical Affairs, Regulatory and Finance.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Manage, coach, and grow the CRO Key Account Managers in US and Europe and ensure that sample and revenue targets are being met.
  2. Drive company sales strategy and contribute in fostering a team environment
  3. Develop sales strategies in accordance with Sysmex Inostics overall commercial objectives, as well as with pharmaceutical companies interests to grow the business potential worldwide and implement and measure them accordingly.
  4. Perform the management and business development 50% of the time while selling and alliance building the other 50% of the time (this ratio is subject to change in the future).
  5. Identify, target, educate and manage relationships and accounts by calling on Pharmaceutical companies and Academic centers performing research and clinical trials. Identify key clients and focus targeted sales activity on high-end revenue, volume opportunities.
  6. Expand into CDx opportunities by identifying and developing opportunities with the pharmaceutical customers beyond the CRO business through collaboration with the entire Commercial Operations team, Tech. Support team, Marketing, Scientific/Medical Affairs, US Patient Testing and R&D.
  7. Serve as window to biopharma customers to drive future business planning by translating customer s immediate and future requirements to new product development.
  8. Maintain a profitable sales to expense ratio as defined by the company.
  9. Have a high degree of technical and clinical understanding and maintain a high degree of product, competitive and market knowledge.
  10. Present a positive and professional image of Sysmex Inostics and ensure activities are consistent with and enhance the company s ethical marketing policies and procedures.

Physical Demands: Light physical effort. Routine handling of objects up to 20 pounds; prolonged (at least 50% of time) sitting, standing, keyboard or CRT work. May require periods of moderate discomfort due to noise, dust, lighting and/or other conditions.

Percent of Travel: 60% International and Domestic travel.

  • Minimum MS degree. PhD preferred in Biology, Genetics, Molecular Biology. 10-15+ years' experience in selling or business development with a strong record of success promoting complex products in medical oncology and/or diagnostics and closing new accounts.

  • Able to work independently with strong work ethic.

  • Must demonstrate a high level of product knowledge.

  • Must be willing to drive to appointments throughout territory with occasional overnight responsibilities.
